Just over a perfectly imperfect year working at Hunt Valley Jewelers, I have learn a lot. A lot about jewelry, a lot about people and a lot about myself.
I have learned that no matter the age, all men have an odd commitment complex. I've seen countless men walk in the store and spend maybe 30 minutes picking out the diamond for their fiancés engagement ring. Then, the time comes for them to come back and pick out their own wedding band and you would think that they are making a life or death decision.
This leads to my next lesson. This ones about myself. I have never had a lot of patience but by working here, I have developed a lot of it. I have learned whether its dealing with customers or dealing with my friends, I need to have patience and a heart of grace.
The next thing I have learned is that no matter how hard you try to explain to people that jewelry is not inexpensive, they still try to bargain for a "better deal."
That lesson leads to another lesson that all people should learn. Just because I'm serving you, doesn't mean I am no longer a human being. I still have feelings and I'm going to make mistakes.
My next lesson is something I have learned about men. It's not easy for them to buy something as "impractical" as jewelry. Well, new flash- just do it, it makes us happy, which is a pretty practical reason.
Another thing I have learned about men, they never really grow up. They all have a small child that seems to explode at times, especially around other men. I'm not saying this is a bad thing but it's a little strange to observe.
I've also leaned that I have definitely chosen I right career path. I've also learned that I have the best freaking parents on the planet ( my dad found this job for me)
I've also learned a lot about jewelry as well, which is too long of a list to share here. But note- to however my future husband may be: get me an oval diamond- they look bigger ;)
I could go on for days about the things I've learned working here. But most importantly ,I've learned that this job has been an enormous blessing in my life! It's not always exciting and its not always demanding but I couldn't ask for a better part-time job. Who else can say that they are being paid to study and post to their blog? Who else can say that they genuinely appreciate and care about the other people they work with?
God is amazing in giving these perfectly imperfect blessings when we aren't even looking for them!
