Classiness

Wine & Dine Date
This weekend, I had the rare opportunity to spend an entire Saturday with my best friend. My boyfriend works every Saturday and we rarely get the chance to spend the day together. He took off this weekend, however, and we took a short trip to Hume Virginia and toured two wineries and stopped at an orchard.

Our first stop was Winding Roads Winery. This stop was spontaneous, since we arrived to our planned destination a little early. We both loved this winery with its warm and homey feel. The owners were wonderful and welcoming. Although the name of the wine slips my mind, the one that changed the taste of chocolate and the chocolate changed the taste of the wine was our favorite (shocking our taste buds agreed). We did a wine tasting and then bought our own bottle to go and drank a glass on the deck. It was a beautiful day and their deck over looked a pond and large field. We both fell in love with the area. It was so relaxing just to sit and spend the day with each other.

After that, we went a mile up the winding country road to Phillip Carter Winery, whose history dates back to the 1700's. There we took a guided tour of the vineyard and learned about the growth of the vines to the process of making the grapes into wine. From there we did a tasting of all of their wines. Everything I loved, he didn't like and vice-versa, I guess that's why they say opposites attract. After the tasting you are given a picnic basket filled with cheese, meat, crackers, chutney and the option to buy a glass of wine. I even let him smoke a cigar, which is a bug no-no for me, but I decided he could have one since it was a special trip.

After that, we were suppose to go camping but I wasn't in the mood since the humidity was so high. We went to an orchard and picked peaches and blueberries before going home, which are our favorites (the blueberries didn't even make them home since we ate them all in the car.) When we decided to go home instead of camp, I felt a little guilty because I knew he really wanted to go. I asked him like a hundred times if he was okay with going home. I asked so much, he got a little irritated and then I cried. Somehow, this didn't ruin our time because it reminded me that even on the most perfect of days, our imperfections show. He said to me " Morgan, I don't care what we do. I am stubborn enough to tell you when I'm not okay with something. As long as I am with you, I don't care what we are doing." Even in our arguments, he has a way of reminding me why I love him.  We each have our imperfections but he makes me happier than anyone ever could.

Overall, I would recommend this day-date to anyone. It was relaxing and affordable (it was $36 for two people on Capital Deal). We got to share a fun day together in a place we had never been. My hope is that we continue to have these perfectly imperfect memories for years to come.
